Green Trail
2D Puzzle Platformer (PC)
Overview
Green Trail is a 2D side-scrolling puzzle platformer set in a world overtaken by rock creatures after environmental collapse.
The player, a plant-based character, uses environmental manipulation to progress through ruined landscapes.

Challenge
The core challenge was designing and implementing a flexible environmental manipulation system that supports puzzle-solving while maintaining tension through AI and timed levels.
Key difficulties:
-
Allowing players to spawn collected objects (rocks, sticks) dynamically.
-
Enabling object resizing and mid-air freezing without breaking puzzle logic.
-
Balancing exploration with pressure from patrolling and chase-based enemy AI.
-
Managing time constraints without disrupting puzzle readability.
Approach
As Lead Programmer, I designed and implemented the core gameplay systems:
-
Built an inventory-based object spawning system tied to collectible items.
-
Implemented real-time object scaling mechanics with size manipulation.
-
Developed a freeze-in-place mechanic allowing mid-air platform creation.
-
Structured environmental puzzle logic around these modular object systems.
-
Created enemy AI with patrol behaviour and chase sequences.
-
Implemented level timers to introduce controlled pressure.
-
Ensured puzzle systems remained stable despite dynamic object resizing and freezing.
Results
The object manipulation framework supported real-time spawning, resizing, and freezing of environmental objects without breaking puzzle logic.
Enemy patrol and chase systems integrated with timed levels while maintaining stable collision and traversal behaviour.
The manipulation system enabled multiple valid puzzle solutions.
